A Journey to Work in the Waiting

Reader,

I am writing this post tear-eyed because today, November 25, 2025, my debut book, The Work in the Waiting released. As I reflect on the journey to this moment, I cannot help but think of God’s intentionality and timing as He walked with me through my long wait journey for the desire for marriage. Little did I know that wait journey would be intertwined with my long-awaited desire to be a published author. Being a published author was the only thing I wanted to do as a career since my senior year of high school. The type of author I wanted to be was a YA Christian fiction author. As I went through college, my plan never wavered, for I worked on my first YA fantasy, dystopian book, and even began writing a second, which was a YA fantasy, historical fiction book.

Even so, after college, the Lord began to plant the seeds of change in my writing. It was February 2016, when I created my blog, Beloved Daughters in Waiting after a few years of unsuccessfully finding a wait journey for the desire for marriage like my own. During a low point in my wait journey, I wrote an encouragement letter to myself. Through the letter, the Holy Spirit showed me He wanted me to share my wait journey and the lessons He has been teaching me through His Word along the way with you. The first blog series I did was a study of the Book of Ruth and the lessons we can learn about waiting through the book.

To my surprise, the seeds the Lord had planted were also being watered over the next three years. In spring 2019, those seeds had grown, for the Lord redirected my path of writing Christian fiction to writing a Christian nonfiction book. This Christian nonfiction book I never planned to write, but God planned all along is The Work in the Waiting, which is a study of the Book of Ruth.

However, it is not the kind of study on the Book of Ruth one might think. There is a tendency to connect the Book of Ruth with statements along the lines of “I’m waiting for my Boaz,” “How to find your Boaz,” or “How to be found by your Boaz.” My debut book, which I finished the final draft the year prior to meeting my incredible godly husband, is not a guide that leads single women to their “Boaz.” The Work in the Waiting is an invitation to deepen our relationship with someone far better: the Lord.

My journey to writing and publishing The Work in the Waiting is one where life did not unfold the way I hoped. My journey is one where I did have to wait far longer than I anticipated. My journey is one where I grew weary in surrendering the same desire repeatedly to the Lord. My journey is one that through it all I chose to trust the Lord and drew closer to Him. My journey is my testimony, and it is one the Lord chose now to share with you, my sisters-in-Christ, through this book.

My prayer is that, if you or you know someone who is walking through a long wait journey, the Holy Spirit nudges you to get The Work in the Waiting. My prayer is the Lord speaks to you and reveals to you what He wants you to learn in your current season. Because when we fix our eyes on the Giver, we begin to see that the waiting season itself is not only good but a gift.
